Not AI related but on the subject of impending doom, the situation in the Middle East right now, is alarming. Even by the standards of normal tension and instability for that part of the world, I'm starting to worry about what escalation could genuinely play out.

Linking it to AI, Israel are using AI to find enemy targets. Or so they say. It keeps bombing civilians. Funny that.

Whenever a new technology is developed, states always do two things; how can we use this to make money, and how can we use it to kill people.

I've just split this into its own topic as I think it deserves one all to itself...
NQAT's official artificial intelligence

I think what Dozer is trying to say is that he knew everything all along and that everyone else has no idea. What he knows and what everyone else knows changes between posts. - Felwin 31/10/2024

Amazing how media attention has been deflected away from Gaza by the Iran bombings.

... in a similar way to how the conflict in Gaza deflected attention away from Ukraine.

Things are just fucked. They've always been fucked but they're more dangerously fucked now. The post-war peace (which was never really a thing) is definitely dead. Liberalism is also dead. Economic neoliberalism has accelerated the biggest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in history, making the rich richer than they've ever been, while post-war gains like healthcare, welfare, social housing etc stop functioning. And ravaging the planet too. And essential services like Thames Water, Yorkshire Water etc meaning unless the taxpayer shells out 20/30bn to clean up the mess, we'll have no water. Would have been cheaper to have kept em nationalised. But then all those rich people wouldn't have got richer.

And then after ending globalisation, Trump is now toying with the idea of invading Iran regardless of what Congress says. A true dictatorial act.

It's fucked.
