Been all but confirmed by Portguese sources and just seen a Romano tweet.
Not sure if it'll be any different than the last 5 lads we've given the job to but we'll see. Highly rated but then so was Ten Hag.

The players have to listen to him, his instructions and carry it out on the pitch. They have to understand the roles and then do them. That's where we may struggle.

There's talk of him taking over in time for Chelsea at weekend. I thought it'd be Ruud til the summer. Fair enough.

He apparently made changes to Sporting’s training and recovery program that reduced injuries by 20%. He’ll need some of that here.
For me, the biggest encouragement point in terms of data, is that he’s significantly out-performing the salary table in Portugal. Interesting data point is that whilst at Ajax, Hag’s salary budget for the playing squad was double the next nearest, and came close to trebling during his time there. So there was a concerted club effort to level up the squad.

As Joel says, the key difference seems to be that he's done wonders with a smaller budget than the big 2 in Portugal, both at Braga and at Sporting. As Hag seemed to be data driven too (or much more so than the managers before him), I'm very cautious about Amorim being the one but I think the initial signs are slightly better.
I've watched a couple of lads on YouTube talk about how our players will fit his formation and it's a bit concerning that we could be playing without wingers. Not sure our defenders are fast enough to cover the wide areas effectively. My slightly pessimistic prediction is that Amorim will have to adjust like Hag did because our players are shit. Lots and lots of question marks, despite the positives in the way the club have acted.
Considering we've never had good wingers for a decade, this isn't concerning at all.Felwin wrote: ↑1 month agoAs Joel says, the key difference seems to be that he's done wonders with a smaller budget than the big 2 in Portugal, both at Braga and at Sporting. It's a fair point but I think our full backs are even worse at providing width. Shaw was the only one and he's going to be replaced by the looks of it.
Maybe we'll see Garnacho and Amad as deputy wing backs? Amass coming in?
I'm just worried there'll be compromises galore again like with Ten Hag, especially with a system United have basically never planned for and never played. I get we can't just magically pull a world class 4-2-3-1 coach out of our arse, and I know the world has probably moved on but we shouldn't expect anything decent until next season IMO. There's going to be lots of hammering square pegs into round holes in the coming month - which is what did for Hag in the end.
This worries me too. We can't even keep a first choice two centre backs consistently fit so how the fuck are we going to manage three? Also, assuming the wide berths are held by specialist full backs, we end up with just two in the centre of midfield. Presumably Ugarte would be one of them and Bruno the other... so what happens to Mainoo? Or is Bruno put in the middle of the front three, in which case, what happens to Hojlund (and Zirkzee)? Amorim's system requires that all players are highly mobile and that's already a problem for us.Felwin wrote: ↑1 month agoIt's a fair point but I think our full backs are even worse at providing width.
