We shouldn't have to do it - but its a move that makes sense. The club is now profit generating for the first time in a long while, but we don't have the cash reserves to fund the rebuild the squad needs in key areas. We need a shorter term injection of funds to that end, IF we have confidence in both spending it wisely and in our future revenues increasing based on CL football and a new stadium.

Might he be on his way to United? I like him, he gets a tune out of a pretty mediocre Bournemouth squad and he seems an intelligent coach. I'd defo prefer Iraola over Carrick regardless of whether Carrick gets us top 5 or not.

Intelligent, young, Prem proven. Makes sense.

The unknowns are can he handle the pressure. Even great managers couldn't in the past.

Also does he play attacking football? It's hard to say cos Bournemouth don't always dominate the ball.

Iraola has got Bournemouth playing aggressive, physical football and he likes a counter. On paper, it fits what we've historically been all about.

But Frank was doing the same at Brentford but looked pathetic at Spurs. The job at United is 10 times bigger.

Getting a manager when he's on the up is definitely the right play. If Amorim hadn't played such a weird system, I reckon it would've worked with him too. As long as we're not hiring past-it old cunts, the only other thing would be finding that once or twice in a generation diamond like Fergie, Ancelotti, Klopp, Guardiola - but that is the hardest thing in football and we've slipped down the pecking order.

That's the thing. It's very hard to enact a specific type of football at a big club. Look at Alonso at Madrid. Their season is a write off.

Another couple of important questions: does Iraola have enough humility to recognise when plan A isn't working. And does he actually have a plan B? That was Amorim's downfall.

He's gonna need more than one approach at United cos teams play better against us and figure us out. It's not enough to do one thing well. He has to have lots of ideas and be able to change his approach - sometimes on the spot in big games.

Agreed. Having a single vision is alright if you've got unlimited resources/are a massive club in a shite league. It's also alright if you are willing to take a big hit on results while the squad is rebuilt according to the manager's vision.

Both won't work with us though. We're in a fiercely competitive league and have around the 5th best squad. Add to that the history, size of the job, the premium we are expected to pay for players etc. and rebuilding the squad for one manager becomes impossibly expensive very quickly. Plus if you're not careful, you get some cunt like Amorim basically implying we might have to be relegated to achieve his vision.

Loads of us were saying it a good 6 months ago. A normal formation, flexibility, getting the players in shape, being comfortable in a political position (i.e. not saying weird shit). Those are the things a manager can and should give us. Player quality can be solved over several windows and we're clearly making steps in that direction.

Good news I reckon. Takes that baggage with him too.

Yeah, glad he's gone given the allegations of cheating. Hopefully he's not set up a doping system at United that would write off this era.

Glad dodgy Dave is gone too, but isn't it sad these days how transfer gurus break news of minor board members leaving like it's rocking the world of football.

I thought he left almost a year ago. I'm pretty certain I saw this news.
