This is a bit random but rugby union clubs have had severe financial difficulties wracking up huge debts (a pittance compared to the debt of Prem clubs) so their solution is a franchise model with no relegation, in order to attract investors
Sounds similar to the NFL
Basically what many US owners want for the Prem
I wonder if private equity are embedded in the Prem because they anticipate a crash and subsequent rebuild which they can mould to a more profitable model (salary cap etc).

Ratcliffe, INEOS and the future
Not sure they anticipate a crash, but they anticipate a Super League.
The restructuring of the CL just won't do for the top top clubs eventually. Their greed will mean they argue for even more money and either UEFA bend the knee to a cabal of super clubs, or they leave and create their own league with an in-house streaming service. It's the modern way - compartmentalise the market, make sure all the revenue is siphoned off by PE and investors in the brands (clubs), then enshittify.
No idea of a timeline, but at some point you'll be paying £50+ a month for basic access to the Super League, then PPV for specific games, maybe a Pro Package for £150+ a month. Completely global. Billions of eyes so the sponsor money would be unlike any other global entertainment venture. It would be a monster money spinner.

The Prem is going to launch its own direct-to-fans streaming service in SingaporeFelwin wrote: ↑3 months ago Not sure they anticipate a crash, but they anticipate a Super League.

"We’re looking to build a business, but we’re also looking to learn to see how that might be replicable around the world.”
So the Prem trialling their own channel so they can bypass the broadcasters. Perhaps doing it before the clubs do. United would love their own broadcaster cos they could take all of the profit. It would be hard to vote through mind cos the smaller clubs would get a smaller slice of the pie. Premflix might be a compromise for all.

United / Ineos have poached another City staff member
Darren Hughes played a role in the development of Oscar Bobb, Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer at City.

Ineos are going for the "best in class" appointments behind the scenes, and that's seemingly City cos they've won everything for the last 10 years
But I do wonder whether they've overlooked the fact City have and probably still are breaking every rule in the book, as well as law, and benefit from having 12 other clubs to aid them
So this geezer we've just hired, is he actually that good when you take all that shit away? Same for Berrada, Wilcox etc

Yeah. I'm skeptical myself. They hired Brailsford so they could just be hiring shiny staff like how we hired shiny players under Woodward.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑3 months ago Ineos are going for the "best in class" appointments behind the scenes, and that's seemingly City cos they've won everything for the last 10 years

This is probably to strengthen midfield in summer
We shouldn't have to do this given how much money the club generates

So basically a short-term boost forgoing on longer term stability.
They're a bunch of austerity cunts, but you have to say INEOS are trying absolutely everything within their power to improve the football operation. Be it creative financing, poaching from other academies, market opportunities, proven talent for the playing and non-playing staff. Kind of an open goal, but it's miles better than Woodward's Disneyland.
Get most of the decisions right, and we'll be at the very least competitive again. Just worry that we get the wrong manager, balls up a few high profile transfers, Glazers stay and the stadium saddles yet more debt on the club, then it might be a double dip recession and we end up worse again.

192m owed this year. How is this gonna work, are they gonna refinance it? Can they? The club made 39m profit and have players they can cash in. But they sold 40ms worth of future transfer money for a reason.
They've also extended the limit on the credit card to 400m - so they must be anticipating not having much cash to spend
In order to stop buying players entirely on the credit card (which then has to be paid back like the 192m), I honestly think the new stadium has to be built - cos it will bring in new revenue like concerts, street food, all that shite. Ineos have cut costs well, particularly squad costs. It's reasonable now. The wage bill is the 4/5th highest in the league -down from being he highest in all of sport at times under Woodward. But the 6/700m profit United make isn't enough to get out of this debt bondage.
