Frustrating 1-0 but not for the reasons I expected. Hopefully it’s part of the process switching the style, bedding players in and waiting on a proper number 9.

Midfield didn’t really work. Hope Mount is finding his feet but Bruno and Casemiro didn’t cover themselves in glory. Need to keep an eye on that in the coming weeks.

I’m hoping that was down to opening day rustiness, because it was a car crash of a performance. Shape all over the place, players looked unfit, no rhythm or tempo. Honestly, who actually showed up? Onana did quite well I thought. No big saves but a couple of important crosses claimed near the end. Varane was ok, Antony ok, but some real shockers in there.

Needs a much, much better performance next weekend.

I think that was the biggest issue; the midfield not working. Nowt going forward and nowt going backwards. If Tottenham are playing big Ange football, they'll smash through us.

Having Hojlund up front will help because he'll press from the front, and allow Rashford to go back wide where he's a threat. That will pin teams back. But yeah you can see why Hag wants another midfielder eg Amrabat.
