I always expect city to bum us as usual but I expect us to beat arsenal. I thought we had to play every other team in the first 19 games but we've already played arsenal and City in the league.

Either way, No chance we're in the title race lol.
City will win it.

Oddly them buying Haaland hasn't made them stronger although he's been excellent. I wonder if its the van nistelrooy story there.

I’d go for Memphis Depay on a free, since that’s what our budget is at apparently. Probably would be more consistent than the likes of Martial, and works hard. The fact that he’s Dutch means he’d probably fit into the system quickly as well. A few goals might be the difference between top four and missing out.

There's a bit of talk of Giroud on loan till the summer. That makes sense. He'd fit our style of play, be a good alternative to Martial, and would bridge the gap until we're (hopefully) armed with much more cash to go an get a longer term solution in the summer. Would probably make more sense than Felix.

City are more open with a proper CF. I also think they're missing Fernandinho in midfield. They've definitely relinquished some control.

I think a lot of people thought once they got Haaland they'd be the greatest team in the universe but there's more to football than that. They've drawn 3 and lost 2 out of 16 which must be worse than previous seasons. Arsenal are 8 points ahead already.

City may pull it back but they're definitely not as strong at the minute.

I also wonder if some of em are sick of Pep. It's been 6 going on 7 years now.

Short answer, no.

I think we look good but the squad is too thin to really solidify top 4. We could grind it out by keeping Varane, Martinez and Casemiro fit but one injury to any of them and it looks very shaky against above average opposition. As for the goals problem that a few have mentioned - we keep finding a way to score at the moment. It can’t go on forever but if Martial finds a bit of form and we loan in Giroud (who’d be perfect IMO) then that might be enough.

Obviously CL is where we want to be but I’d almost be happier with a cup and 5th-6th. I almost believe in that more as well. Could be a blessing and a curse.
Good to be moving in a positive direction but another season in the EL will hurt our ability to attract good players.

I think top 4 is crucial to our summer business. Not just for the financials, but if Arsenal and Newcastle get in too, they'll be strong pulls for players. Chelsea will throw cash around and Liverpool will still be a pull (likely with stronger finances too).

Top 4, new owners, momentum building and hopefully a cup too would be an excellent season, all things considered.

ETH seems to be getting good performances out of Bissaka, and that’s really helpful. Otherwise we’ve depended on Dalot far too much. With Rashford our only scoring forward, we need at least one scorer, if not two. Any two of Giroud, Memphis, or Felix might get see us through. I’d love it if we could combine Felix with either Giroud or Memphis. That should be affordable even for us. Martial isn’t contributing, Sancho is off finding himself somewhere, and Antony has not shown much so far.

Aye given that the published accounts show we have 24m in the bank, no more room on the credit card and no shirt sponsor for next season, we definitely need the CL money - probably just to keep the lights on at the minute.
