I’ve been torn for a while as well and I’ve noticed the good coverage the human rights issues are getting in Germany too. Also good on the fan groups here for making massive Tifos the last few weeks and properly forcing the issue into everybody’s faces.

Ultimately I’m going with my gut and will be boycotting the tournament fully. At some point you just have to say enough is enough. There might be plenty of other horrible stuff that I could raise awareness of and campaign for but I barely find the time to watch United so that’s beyond my means right now.

I’ll be resisting the urge to go on social media as well so the more you guys post here of any controversy, that’ll be greatly appreciated.

Don’t want to attempt to spoil anyone else’s enjoyment or get on my high horse but for me we’ve strayed so far from what football was just a short few decades ago. We had our problems in the 80s with violence and stadium disasters but the general supporter base was down to earth and passionate and there were no vanity projects and proxy supporting the worst kind of politics. I know that sounds very “the good old days” but I’d gladly admit how shit it was when I was a kid/teenager. But football at least had a sense of where it came from.

So yeah, I’m boycotting. Feels a bit like im punishing myself but otherwise I feel kinda complicit.

:ymapplause: fair play. You're right, football has left its roots behind. The creeping commercialisation in the 90s, then Abramovic buying Chelsea. Now you have City winning everything domestically, and Newcastle soon to overtake em. It's a piss take. The world cup is symbol of all that. It's one of the reasons fans are drifting away.

Obviously the beer is small fry compared to all the other shit. But Its the hypocrisy of it all.

The executives and vip areas will still have alcohol, you couldn't make it up.

To do it 48 hours before it starts is a pisstake as well. You can be sure it was there plan all along.

Who's to say the ruling family don't decide last minute actually theyd rather not have same sex couples holding hands etc around doha.

I wonder if u-turning on booze was the plan all along. They may have said you can drink in the stadium to look progressive knowing full well they were gonna reverse the decision.

They've also u-turned on the paid fans propaganda

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... -cancelled

Like Jason said, it makes you wonder what they'll u-turn on next.

Well, it's all by the by when, in reality, we should apparently all be sorry for the last 3000 years and not concern ourselves with what's happening today

Wow, the president of FIFA is resorting to twitter level whataboutism to deflect attention.

Has the silly cunt forgotten he was born in Switzerland, or does he really think he's a gay migrant worker African Arab like he said in his speech

Absolute load of bollocks, oh so because Europeans have fucked about for last 1000 years, it means we are not in position to point out lack of basic human rights in a country hosting the biggest football tournament in the world.

All this shite about respecting their rules, as its in their country. How tf do you expect me to respect your rules, when the rules give zero respect to someone based on who they want to be with.

The corruption involved in Qatar getting this wc is on another level.

What happens to all these massive stadiums after the wc is over? How's the national football league attendance in Qatar?

What a fucking wanker. If you’re gonna make the whole “the west is just racist” argument, at least get your facts straight. The Arab slave trade in Africa was older and went on until much more recently than the European one. Western Europe only massively started interfering in the Middle East after about 1800.

3000 years?! Give me strength. What a moron.

Also I like how he says “Europe and the Western world”. So Ireland as well then? Malta? Greece? Poland? Canada? All of them horrible colonialists who should never dare question a shite little fascist shariah petrostate because they should be apologising to them instead.

Gall of him.

Benzema's out of the world cup because of a thigh injury.
I wonder if Martial will get called up.
