I’ve been torn for a while as well and I’ve noticed the good coverage the human rights issues are getting in Germany too. Also good on the fan groups here for making massive Tifos the last few weeks and properly forcing the issue into everybody’s faces.

Ultimately I’m going with my gut and will be boycotting the tournament fully. At some point you just have to say enough is enough. There might be plenty of other horrible stuff that I could raise awareness of and campaign for but I barely find the time to watch United so that’s beyond my means right now.

I’ll be resisting the urge to go on social media as well so the more you guys post here of any controversy, that’ll be greatly appreciated.

Don’t want to attempt to spoil anyone else’s enjoyment or get on my high horse but for me we’ve strayed so far from what football was just a short few decades ago. We had our problems in the 80s with violence and stadium disasters but the general supporter base was down to earth and passionate and there were no vanity projects and proxy supporting the worst kind of politics. I know that sounds very “the good old days” but I’d gladly admit how shit it was when I was a kid/teenager. But football at least had a sense of where it came from.

So yeah, I’m boycotting. Feels a bit like im punishing myself but otherwise I feel kinda complicit.

fair play. You're right, football has left its roots behind. The creeping commercialisation in the 90s, then Abramovic buying Chelsea. Now you have City winning everything domestically, and Newcastle soon to overtake em. It's a piss take. The world cup is symbol of all that. It's one of the reasons fans are drifting away.
