Not saying you're attacking Hag but why feel the need to temper the praise? It's deserved and no one is going overboard thinking he's top notch. He's a proper fucking coach and not a personality or Fergie's adopted son like our others in recent years. That makes all the diffference.

The praise is overboard. He needs to get better results before so much praise. He does deserve some credit but so far it's more of him showing potential but the jury's out whether he'll be a successful coach. We'll see.

Calling Ole Fergie's son is unwarranted bias. We tried the top managers, then hired him as an interim and he did well. He got the contract and he did well for the next 2 seasons. He did terribly in the 4th and got sacked. In the end the results got him the contract and also the sack. It wasn't his relationship with Fergie.

Ragnick who wasn't even a coach for a decade but a sporting director, got the interim coaching job and was garbage. He didn't get the contract and was promptly booted out. He wasn't hired as an interim sporting director but as a coach. He showed neither results not promise.

Even though Ole got rid of some deadwood he wasn't ruthless enough. Hopefully ten hag won't make the same mistake. The early signs are he is ruthless but we'll need to see. If de gea stays next season as our no 1 then it's a big red flag.

Well Ten Hag could well get fucked over by shit Glazer ownership, just like every manager before him. Right now it looks like we’re going to be hamstrung by the same transfer ineptitude this summer as we have been for the last decade. It at least with Ten Hag—unlike Jose and Ole—I feel that he can get more out of the squad with more time to coach them. Jose and Ole were tactically limited chequebook managers, which was fucking fatal for a club with such obviously incompetent people handling transfers. It was predictable that it would end in leaving the club broke.

I meant Fergie's son as in he tried to ape him without really having what it takes. It's possible Ole might've ended up a good manager in another era. He clearly got performances in big games and the players loved him. But the game is so much more tactical now. I'm not sure I can remember a time where Ole made a sub or a tweak that properly changed the game. Like for like and hope that we pull a rabbit out of the hat.

I get why you're cautious about Ten Hag but for me the results will come after the modernising. I wasn't sold myself until the Barca game and the League Cup. Once Hag showed he can actually do the big games with this lot, and started coming up with creative solutions on the fly I became pretty certain he's the real deal. The biggest problem now is that propensity to shit the bed and concede loads of sloppy goals. I wouldn't call that "jury's out", more he has some way to go before we can say he's a top, top coach. Success will depend a lot on things out of his hands IMO (like bman said).

I thought Ole did well as our manager considering he was coaching in the Norwegian league. I never saw any sign that we would develop the style of play that would make us compete for the big pots, but we weren’t shit either. Got decent results, and did well against big teams. He wasn’t qualified to manage United, but he was much better than Lampard has been managing any club. So I think some pundits betray their bias when they dismiss Ole but treat Lampard like a serious manager.

Lowest I've felt about the side since last spring. It really looks to be sliding away from him at the moment. Not sure how much is his fault.

False dawn is relative I guess. We've all hoped in recent years that the next new one would take us back to the Fergie era but here it's just about becoming a respectable club again. So many other problems at the club that I wouldn't be surprised if he failed but he'd land on his feet at another top job because he's really highly regarded and has a modern outlook.

When you think about the lineups recently and how much dysfunction there is, it seems logical to let him off the hook a bit but it's his job to get results I guess so there's always that angle.

I think he's spot on. Not perfect, bit certainly very good. He has a huge job, This group of players are a disgrace, largely. How many times over the last few years do we see Gea or a defender make a completely basic schoolboy error? Or completely shit the bed performances? Or forward players go missing? Way, way too often. Even players we think of as our 'better players'... Gea, Shaw... prone to clangers. Rashford had a great purple patch but Salah's numbers are better in a season where apparently he's been shit.

We're a long way off.

Aye it's really not good enough. I actually thought Shaw was very good today though. Lindelof was average. The FB's and DDG were much more problematic defensively.

For me the most worrying thing is that the newer players might be catching the disease. Eriksen and Casemiro have still not got up to speed and they've had about 5 games together now. Malacia is clearly a brain farter like all of our other legacy defenders. Antony has the bollocks but maybe not quite the craft. So much mental fragility.
