Our star has fallen a long way and the squad is still average and dysfunctional in several positions. Also, I was talking about strikers so your point about Sancho and Garnacho is irrelevant.

Tired of making the point but you can’t judge a manager on the actual amount of money spent. Not his fault that United pay a double premium, once for being clueless at planning/negotiating and another because everyone knows they’ll always pay up for political reasons.

I wasn’t a Pogba apologist. Same as with Sancho. There’s a fucking good player in there and I want to see him more often. I’m just being realistic. We’re stuck with a lot of these players so it’s always a compromise and Hag has done a great job finding that compromise more often than not. Another tired point but it’s not a computer game where you can just get rid of 10 and sign 10 in one window. Have to commit to a long term process of improving each position. Especially now money is a big issue.

IMO ten Hag is doing a really good job, regardless of how we finish the season. Better than I expected in all honesty. Got rid of Ronaldo, emergence of Garnacho, Martinez & Casemiro looking like proper reds, Rashford surprisingly good. A very nice recovery on last seasons awfulness. And it wasn’t on the cards in August at all.
Well said ^:)^

I'm doomsdaying but if the 200k wage cap remains for the foreseeable, these could be the last top players we get to see at Old Trafford. Most of them are old and we can't afford to replace them on those kind of wages. A lot depends on what investment comes in summer; new owners, PE, Ratcliffe etc.

Will there be money for bigger wages or is money just being raised for structural stuff eg OT and Carrington.

If there is money for wages eg the Qataris bid, the annual turnover has to grow as well (we're currently making 1m loss a week) in order to be able to spend that money. So this would be done via new, bigger commercials which they'll need to sign. Failing to do this means we'll fall foul of FFP.

The City model of bogus sponsorships is under scrutiny so probably not an effective method anymore.

Sorting out the Glazer mess could take ages - too long for Hag to be successful. So this season could be as good as it gets.

De Gea has agreed a new deal. There are rumours his number 1 spot is not guaranteed. But that smacks of Glazer PR after giving another new contract to another average-to-shit player.

This is on ten hag. He decides on the players.
He's not ruthless enough. This is a very bad sign.

We don't know the ins and outsof the contract. Possible he's on less money with bonuses that are amortised to make him overall cheaper. Frees up money and makes him easier to get rid of next summer.

As shit as De Gea has been in the last few weeks, it's sensible squad management. The kind that we haven't had in years. Release De Gea and we'd have to buy or promote a kid. Butland is a reserve at Palace, Heaton is nowhere near good enough, Henderson hates the club. Also he's been more exposed without Martinez and Varane who Hag will plan on as being available for most of the season again.

We have the budget for 1-2 first teamers. 3 if we magically make some good money on sales. Striker, midfield and full back are more important.

We'll see if he's ruthless in the summer. If we manage to offload 4-5 of Maguire, Bissaka, Fred (McT maybe but I'd keep him as a homegrown player), de Beek, Martial and Elanga then IMO that's ruthless enough.

Its on the Glazers, because doesn’t have a fucking clue what budget he has to work with in the summer. So he can’t be ruthless.

Yeah he can’t leave himself without a keeper for next season. Who knows what our transfer situation is going to be like this summer. The sensible thing for TH and the transfer people at the club right now to assume the worst in terms of transfer budget.

Even if the Qatari's takeover, they can't pump 3/400m into the club in one summer. They have to work within FFP, and City-style the bogus sponsorship route looks dead.

Undoing the Glazers' mess while working within FFP is a very difficult job. With the Qatari's it would happen sooner. But you're still talking years.

If we want to spend more than what the credit card and player sales allow this summer, getting CL football and a new shirt sponsor that pays more than Teamviewer (cos they're departing) will give us a bit more revenue and wriggle room within FFP.

Yeah, the club makes 1m loss a week. The accounts show the Glazers plan to pay off some of the credit card debt - presumably to sign players cos that's the only way.

We have 1 proper CF whose always injured, and another one on loan whose scored 2 goals in 34 Prem appearances. So while De Gea doesn't suit Hags football and is getting shitter, he can still do a job. Whereas that's not true up front. So if it comes down to either/or, CF has to be prioritised.

I saw somewhere that DDG‘s wages will be lower with the new deal. Long term he needs replacing but priorities lie elsewhere at the moment, so a new deal probably makes sense.
