Yeah. That, or their original plan was to use Jim to lever Qatar up to silly money, assuming they’d just roll over for their belly to be tickled.brianofnazarethffs wrote: ↑6 months ago Only United (Glazers) could ruin a fucking takeover and take all the fun out of it. Sick to the back teeth of it now tbf.
To me, it seems the Gimps have played Qatar in order to get Jim to do a deal where the leech fucks stay on in some capacity. Whatever the plan, I hope they get it done ASAP and fuck off.
Will the Glazers sell?

So, my conclusion on this farce.
I don't think the Glazers have/had any intention of fully exiting the scene. As ever, their motivations are entirely motivated by a quest for personal gain, with zero fucks for the club or its fans. They'll believe the potential value of the club could be much, much higher - based on a Super League (that's 100% still in the works) and ever improving developments in technology. Apparently, the VR tech that's out there now (see Apple's launch yesterday) will very soon allow people to don a headset and basically 'be in Old Trafford'. The visuals and audio will be akin to being in Old Trafford, but enhanced by technology - why bother actually developing the ground or fixing the roof, just enhance the surroundings digitally. The level of interaction with what's happening on the pitch will likely go in directions that astound as well.
But, they don't have the money needed to keep the club competitive, so they want hooks in from PE or Ratcliffe types, with compulsory selling rights so that if revenue goes where its expected to go, they'll be massively quids in again. Qatar have been dicked along, largely because the Glazers will have assumed that they'd have the means and appetite to write a blank cheque. Only a stupid offer would have enticed them, and it hasn't arrived.
The Qatari's will be hugely fucked off and make it their personal crusade to buy another PL club and bank roll it, so we fall even further behind. Probably another London Club, someone like Spurs or maybe even a West Ham.

We really need the ownership sorted out or we will be fucked in the transfer market.

In related news, the Saudi's hostile takeover of golf is complete.
They set up a rival league from scratch and threw money at tons of golfers to take them away from the PGA (like poaching footballers from the Prem). This threatened the existence of the PGA and other orgs so they sued the fuck out of the Saudis.
Now a merger of the orgs has been announced. But it's not a merger, it's the Saudi league with Yasir Al-Rumayyan in charge. The only outside investor in the league is the PIF of which Yasir is also chairman. He's also chairman of Aramco, the biggest single provider of oil to the US and china, and of course NUFC.
The Prem will be shitting it. The saudi's have basically maneuvered their way to controlling the entirety of golf via their fund and their state workers.
Also important to know: yesterday state media revealed the PIF fund bought 4 Saudi clubs and changed their status from clubs to companies. Now they're throwing money at tons of players to fill their teams. It's not just megastars like Ron and Benzema, it's regular players like Kante and Zaha.

The 5 richest clubs in the world now are Newcastle, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal. Far richer than anything in the Prem including City.

I'm not sure we can read much into it yet. Only older players in search of a paycheck care about playing in the Asian federation. You become a star in Europe or maybe South America. That's where the best players will continue to play.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑5 months ago The 5 richest clubs in the world now are Newcastle, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal. Obviously there'll be one or two younger players tempted by outrageous money like China managed but I don't think we'll see a brain drain or something similar to golf.

Yeah, football will be harder to crack if their end goal is to take over it. We've seen this before with the Chinese and US leagues buying old players. The prestige of the European leagues goes a long way too.Felwin wrote: ↑5 months agoI'm not sure we can read much into it yet. But... they've proven they can execute outrageous projects like taking over golf, buying the biggest boxing / MMA fights, building the city in the desert which is utterly fucking ridiculous but actually happening.
It depends what they want - do they want to build a rival league or is that just leverage to barge their way in to taking over existing authorities like the Prem, UEFA and FIFA.
A journo from Athletic said there's a view in football that states buying shares in leagues is the next step. La liga has been mentioned cos it's financially fucked. Germany has just voted no to selling stakes in bundesliga to private equity. But they'd be up for grabs too. A Saudi takeover of these would destroy the Prems dominance.
Might be wrong, but I can't see the Bundesliga selling stakes in the league itself Sid. The recent coverage about PE investment was about the commercial subsidiary that negotiates the broadcast rights. The DFB needs to invest in its streaming facility and needs capital up front for the investment.
