I’m inclined to agree with dozer on this one.
Mbappe‘s not just another bonded migrant labouer.
I guess they’ll try and buy him off with even more money, but hope he holds out for the move to Madrid.

I'm listening to a podcast about the changes to competitions that are coming in the next couple of years
In the CL there'll be 8 league games rather than 4 in the group stage, games on Thursdays, and games in January
At the same time the world cup has nearly double the amount of games, and the club world cup has gone from 2/3 games to a 32 team competition
The europa league, which is already too long, has been extended this season too, along with the europa conference
There'll be a match nearly every day. They're making a bigger product. But for me it's overkill.

Same for the players by the looks of it
I wouldn't rule out strike action. All these changes I mentioned - no one has consulted the players. It's being led by the authorities, broadcasters and sponsors to bring in new revenue. But it's the players that create the product.
I can't comprehend why they can't have 60min games where the clock is stopped every time the ball is out of play. No complicated stoppage time calculations and any other crap.
The outfield ref shouldn't have to deal with clock times. The game ends when it hits 60 mins. I read that that's the approximate duration a game is actually played with the rest being wasted on stoppages so 60mins looks like a good time to end the game.
It seems so easy to implement and resolve all ambiguity. I don't know what I'm missing.

It's the players and managers who've abused this system and exploited dead ball situations. They've pretended to be injured trying to buy time but are quick to blame referees when they ignore a genuine injury and don't stop play because the ref thinks the player's crying wolf. This bullshit affected the sport and the viewing experience pretty hard. So yeah, I wouldn't consult the players if I were among the authorities.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑1 year agoSame for the players by the looks of it

I suspect there's a whole lot of tradition that you're failing to comprehend. Not saying that's a good reason for how things are but, then again, if you want things as you describe then you could always watch the soulless sales and marketing opportunity they call "American Football".dozer wrote: ↑1 year ago I can't comprehend why they can't have 60min games where the clock is stopped every time the ball is out of play. Regardless, I don't think a system such as you describe would make much difference since teams are well versed in wasting time during all phases of a match, be it to roll around in fake agony or run the ball into the corner to waste time at the end of the game. In a stop clock scenario, there would just be more of the latter to compensate for any of the former... just like there already is.
I think, if you read things a bit better, it's the number of games throughout the season that Varane and other players are taking issue with, not that they could be extended by extra minutes.dozer wrote: It's the players and managers who've abused this system and exploited dead ball situations. I think what Dozer is trying to say is that he knew everything all along and that everyone else has no idea. What he knows and what everyone else knows changes between posts. - Felwin 31/10/2024

I think it's that as well though, Fub. There'll be loads of injury time like at the world cup. The authorities want to cut down on time wasting as right now the ball is only in play for 40-50 mins.
Even shit like getting a breather for a throw in will, in theory, be added on at the end.
So longer, more intense games - plus a shitload of extra games in a season.
It's impossible tbh. It will affect the quality of the games. It already does tbh. Teams that play an intense press like Liverpool, Newcastle, us tbf, are not gonna be able to keep it up over a full season. There'll also be even less room for actual training, tactics, technical shit. it'll be just days of rest and recuperation. It mostly already is now tbf.
