And it puts United in a positive light which is huge for a club that has generated a consistent amount of negative media for many years - from the Glazers shit ownership, to failed managers, to Greenwood. He's a necessity from the Glazers point of view.

Yet PSG were offering him 1m a week not long ago, and no doubt Saudi, if they were ever interested, triple that.

That's the point; we can't afford those wages and thus quality players if states are interested.

We need his goals though, don’t we. You saw what happened to Chelsea without any goals. The wage increase isn’t a major expense compared to the transfer fees we are getting quoted. It sounds like we’ll pay at least 60M for Hojlund, who’s still only a prospect.

When you let the squad deteriorate like United has, your few good players have you over a barrel.

If you look at this thread, it's clear part of the reason Rashford got the contract because of fans support.
United fans must be among the dumbest fans in the world. If martial scores a few goals this season the fans will start begging the club to give him a 300k deal.

Calling it "Getting excited about his form" is reductive.
If the criteria to clamour for his expensive contract is him being a decent guy then that's my point. Fans are stupid.

How decent is he as a human anyway? His last season before contract expiry was his first good season out of 8 years. He didn't extend and would have gone on a free without top wages. His negotiation skills are fair game but that's hardly decent.

I suppose decent means him getting top wages for not assaulting anybody.
