I've been saying we should throw Shaw out 6 years ago.
We should throw mount out as well.
Assessing our squad

Shaw isn't going to be back anytime soon. Do we have some sort of witch doctor working on our left backs? None of them can get fit.

I just checked and he's only played more than 40 games a season twice in 10 years. He's only played more than 30 games 4 times.Felwin wrote: ↑1 month ago https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... ry-setback

I'm done with him. He was a cunt for going to the Euros.
Priority for Jan has to be a left back. Or a left back, given how Amorim plays.

He's under contract until 2027. That's when we'll be done with him.JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑1 month ago I'm done with him. He was a cunt for going to the Euros.

Without a doubt. He'll also be one of the highest earners, so he'll occupy one of the few top brackets for all that time meaning we can't give it to another, better player.dozer wrote: ↑1 month agoHe's under contract until 2027. I'd be surprised if he played more than 50 games between now and then.

He's right. It's good to hear after years of the Glazers that have no clue and no real interest other than receiving dividends.
It's easy for him to be honest now. Let's see how honest he is in a few years when all of the squad is replaced with Ineos' signings.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑1 month agoHe's right. It's good to hear after years of the Glazers that have no clue and no real interest other than receiving dividends.

Assessing the squad takes on a new context now doesn't it? New broom and all that.
Difficult to conclude it needs anything other than major re-work, but I do think that 3 or 4 of the right signings coupled with 1 or two breaking through from the academy, could see us somewhere near, IF Amorim is the real deal.
There are positives for him to build on.
As a back 3, Martinez, De Ligt and Yoro should be ideal. You've got a real blend of pace, power, ball playing ability. It's young enough to play together for a while and it could be perfect for Martinez to make the most of his ability to play out from the back. Maguire is better in a 3 too. Lacking in depth after that, but as a starting baseline its pretty good.
Onana looks much more settled and in a side that is properly coached to play out from the back, he could kick on another level.
Mazroui should be perfect for a wing back role. And Dalot is better going forward than defensively. Mazraoui as a starting RWB and Dalot backing him up should be fine.
The left side is a problem. A fit and reliable Luke Shaw would be ideal, but he's never going to be reliable. If we can use him as cover for that role and for Martinez, and we go out and sign a LWB, that could work well.
Midfield - The central 2 isn't in that bad a place. Ugarte is perfect for Amorim's system. Casemiro looks much better in a more coherent and compact setup and there's Mainoo too. We'll need another quality addition in the summer but until then, we should be ok.
Then based on how Amorim seem's to deploy two 10s around a central striker, Bruno and Amad should be ideal. Garnacho could probably play in that role too. But it's these positions, and the number 9 role that need a real injection of quality.
Be interesting to see how it unfolds. We need 3 or 4 quality additions anyway, but there's enough in the squad to take a meaningful view of how well Amorim does between now and the summer, and which players are worth keeping around for the longer term.
