Fuck the Glazers wrote: 2 months ago Ratcliffe has gone public and said he wants to rebuild Old Trafford and create a "Wembley of the north". He also wants the taxpayer to pay for part of it the cheeky cunt.

I'm up for a rebuild so long as it's good like Tottenhams.
Cheeky, but City and West Ham got free stadiums from the taxpayer, so money for developing a cultural institution shouldn't be as controversial as I'm sure it will be amongst rival fans. The argument for taxpayers money will be around developing the entire area and building an event location, restaurants, bars etc. a la Spurs I'm sure. Not like they'll be asking for the money to buy players or owt.
Yeah good points. They'll also probably rent out the new ground for events like Madrid and Spurs are, which they'll say are in the public interest. It'll help United bring in new revenue.

I was listening to Kieran Maguire talk about how Spurs are now the biggest earners from match day revenue cos of their new ground. It's not just on the capacity of the stadium either, it's the other ways they make money like street food and all that bollocks.

City are also building that office & hotel complex and huge screens to bring in more money. This is the way football is going so we'll probably follow suit. I think 2bn is conservative. It'll be more like 2.5/3bn.
That’s key. If you can get a big % of the 80k fans going into the ground earlier, buying food and having a beer, creating proper fan zones, it’s a money spinner.

Could you imagine if they'd rejected it...

2003 they wave through Abramovich. 2005 they wave through the parasites. 2008 they wave through Abu Dhabi. 2021 they wave through Saudi.

INEOS though, scumbags, denied.

I'd self immolate, seriously, I'd do what those monks did.

Nah but seriously, it's good the deal has gone through. The Glazers own 25% less of the club. I'm concerned that Ratcliffe's Ineos are destroying the planet and a key reason my house is probably gonna flood repeatedly in the coming years. However, at least they're not a state.

Ineos are already pretty much running the club. It's seemingly more than just the football side of things, it's mega projects like the stadium and Carrington. So from that we can deduce that they're up for it, they care and they're eager to sort out the mess. It also seems like the Glazers are prepared to take a backseat and let them do it.

“Working with our partners and private developers, we will be looking to create new homes, new neighbourhoods and help create a world-class setting for the Manchester United stadium.”

So they're gonna do up the area at the same time United are gonna rebuild or revamp Old Trafford. Ratcliffe's definitely had a few conversations with the council and investors.

Wouldn't surprise me if the council had been waiting for United to sort out Old Trafford. In another 5/10 years and it would have looked like a dump and brought down that area, with the cricket ground & war museum. Hopefully now they can do a good regeneration job and make it a pleasant destination.

All this potential has been sat there the entire time, just been no cooperation with the local authority and no desire to improve anything beyond the absolute bare minimum. Fucking Glazer slumlords could’ve made even more money out of the sale if they’d been prepared to invest but here we are, easier to do fuck all and make billions than to try and improve what you own.

Anyway, good news. I’d be interested to see what they have planned. Lots of warehouses and that in the area that are “in the way”. Hope it doesn’t just mean swanky apartments.

Reading some more detail, there's gonna be quite a few swanky apartments. They're planning to build 5000 homes, most of them glass towers on the quayside by the sounds of it. It'll be for those working on the other side of the quay in media city where there are lots of top jobs.

But there's also gonna be a park, they're gonna make the war museum more of a destination, and supposedly improve links to the quays but also the city centre which is needed.
