It'll be nice to have Casemiro back for a couple of games before his inevitable red card and suspension.
...just hope he's stayed off the mince pies.
He's Brazilian, there's no way he is eating mince pies. Can you get fat from eating too much bunda?

Some talk that Ratcliffe & co want to offload Casemiro and Varane soon.

Varane is on 17.6m a year and Casemiro 18m. That means they're in top 5 highest paid Prem players along with Salah, Haaland and De Bruyne. Yet both of them don't contribute anywhere near as much as those 3.

Are they worth 35m a year? Not for me. Not when we've got no cash, the club loses money, and we're probably insolvent.

If we ditch Sancho as well (18m a year), it would free up over 50m a year. That could seriously help transform the club.

Clearly very early days, but I’m liking the sound of the noise around SJRs thinking and motives. Lets see.

Yup, good calls those Sid. We've seen the best of Varane and Casemiro and time to move them on. Hopefully Sancho's loan deal will encourage them to take him off our hands. Good riddance - clearly a dickhead.

Just goes to show how bad our recruitment is. Ok, so Varane has been with us 2.5 years but last season was his only decent season with us and so hardly £50m worth. But then Casemiro for £60m on a bumper 5 year contract made no sense when there was the likes of Tielemans going for free. An obscene amount of money wasted over the past 15 years or so. I struggle to name more than 2 or 3 players that have proven to improve us.

Agreed. And from the small amount of signings that have “improved us”, there’s always a catch. Like Ibrahimovic getting injured and not fancying another season. Mata slowing to the point where he was unusable. Bruno being only good at playing football a certain way. Shaw breaking his leg. Martinez getting crocked too last season.

Not the players fault when they get injured of course, but if you make 3-4 solid signings a season, you don’t notice the bad luck.

Casemiro is a bad signing keeping the numbers in mind, but our recruitment has been so bad that he's still been among our better signings in spite of these problems. He was phenomenal in his first season with us. That's less of a waste of money and more importantly space, when compared to Rashford, martial smalling, Bailly, Mata etc.

On the issue of mega wages, they have to earn their money like Haaland, Salah and De Bruyne do by being consistently good to great if they want to be paid the same as them. That includes Rashford. He'll be on something similar but he's been shite for longer than he's been good. If it continues, get rid.

Wages are precious under FFP and as a non-doped club with over 1bn debt hanging over us, and a further 2bn for new infrastructure improvements, we can't afford to pay this level of wages and not get enough back.

It's been 9 years. How much longer should we wait for it to continue?

9 years is disingenuous. You always talk about Rashford as if he was another signing we've bodged. Youth players should always be given far more leway and time to find a place in the squad. He was fucked about by Mourinho. Both he and Martial were never the same after Mourinho had finished browbeating them. Poor mentality? Perhaps, but there was definitely a player in there.

The main problem with Rashford is that we would have all welcomed a local lad being a squaddie with potential but he's been elevated to superstar status through hype around his debut goals (in every competition he's played in if I recall correctly), England performances 2016-20, taking on the Tories and winning twice and finally last season which was really fucking good and should be acknowledged. The superstar status and our dumb management means he commands an extortionate wage way beyond his ability or performances. None of that is his fault, nor is the back problems he had and was forced to play through under Ole. Not an elite mentality and we see it in games where he blows hot and cold, not really knowing when and where to use his abilities. But if that's his only crime then he's no worse than 20 others in the squad.
