Aye, the depth just isn't there. Important not to lose though. Looking like 4th now, Newcastle are flying.

We were cruising and then Hag decided to swap Eriksen for Fred and Sancho for Tony, and we lost our rhythm and Spurs got into the game. And they should have won it. Fred couldn’t press, win the ball nor retain it when he had it and for me this was the reason why we ended up dropping a couple of points.
We're debilitated by the fact Eriksen can only play 60/70 mins. We need his calmness and control to see out games. But he always gets subbed. And when Fred comes on his place and plays like that, fucking hell, we're fucked.

You have to credit Hag. We have 2 quality centre backs and centre mids, one quality number 10 and one quality striker in Rashford - who isn't really a centre forward. The drop off and lack of depth is chronic.

I was thinking this before. Looking at the season as a whole he's done a great job.

We have almost 3 teams in one. A team that can play fairly decent counter attacking football with Dave going long, Bruno playing in the runners and the full backs fairly conservative. A team that can just about control a game with Eriksen and Casemiro at their best and a back line comofrtable on the ball. And a gung-ho Hagball team that presses in midfield, inverts wingers or full backs and works really hard in attack and defence.

The problem is that we have maybe 4-5 good players for each style. So we play a game, or just a half, looking like a proper Hag team but then lose the intensity like last night. Or we start off on the counter, but then struggle for control - sometimes looking absolutely shocking like in the big away defeats. Or we actually control the game for large parts but players tire or the mistakes creep in.

Hag has done really well switching back and forth. But like last night, what do you actually do when Eriksen tires and the team lose control of the midfield? Sabitzer could've been an option but he's played a part in some big defeats recently. McT would just be a passenger. Only one offering anything was Fred because of his energy and on his day he can play a decent pass. He was shit so then that's it, you're fucked. Why we saw Weghorst at 10 again to try and do what Fred should've been doing.

Really hope he has a clear out. He seems fairly ruthless and doesn't take shit so I back him to know who should go... but the players we get in. Could be really tough,

I thought putting on Martial was just a weird decision, he was always likely to do fuck all in that situation. Putting Fred on made more sense to shore up midfield, but he played shit anyway.
